How to Prevent Trolls from Ruining your Brand on Social Media

October 9, 2017

If you are brand marketers who use social media to promote your brand or products, I bet you want to keep your good reputation on your social networks all the time. However, if you are successful brand marketers, you may inevitably meet trolls who envy your success or friendly atmosphere on social media. Trolls may always find a way to ruin your reputation so that they may get attention from others.

People like to express their opinions online. Therefore, it is wise for you to identify the trolls from those who just give pertinent criticism. For the latter, you should give feedbacks to explain the things or accept their advice to improve your brand awareness. However, for the trolls, you may get headache and annoyed.

As business marketers, you cannot just ignore the trolls because the negative comments may reduce your brand awareness. One of the most effective methods is to fight back with humor. As you inject some humor into your feedback, it may battle trolls and enlarge your brand influence. For example, a client who bought a chicken sandwich gave a comment as below, “like it was beaten to death by Hulk Hogan.”  The brand of the chicken sandwich did not ignore the comment. Instead, the brand replied, “really sorry, it wasn’t up to scratch. We will replace Mr. Hogan with Ultimate Warrior on our production line immediately”. This reply is great, isn’t it? It sees this crisis as a great opportunity to take more engagement.

Preparing a proper reply is also a good choice to deal with trolls. Launching online marketing means that every activity is a reflection of your products or brand and everything you post would be regarded as an official act. Preparing a consistent reply may let people see that you really don’t care about the trolls and won’t take your time arguing with trolls. A long-term argument with trolls is always negative and detrimental to your brand reputation. In this way, you may waste your time and energy and you are just giving trolls entertainment and fulfillment.

If you are too busy to handle trolls, you should consider about buying some social media followers. Once you have a great number of loyal followers, they will help you to increase brand awareness and provide support and fight with trolls.
